Scroll the Chess Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 4, 2026
Summary
- Scroll the Chess is published by Derin Özyenilmez, an individual developer. Contact: support@scrollthechess.com.
- No accounts, no sign-in. We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- Your progress, scores, settings and onboarding answers are stored on your device and, if iCloud is on, in your own iCloud account. App usage data sent to our providers (section 3) may include them.
- Limited technical and usage data goes to service providers so we can run the subscription, improve the app, fix crashes and measure our advertising.
- Ad tracking happens only if you allow it in the App Tracking Transparency prompt; you can change that in iOS Settings at any time.
- We do not sell personal data for money, and the app shows no ads.
1. Who we are
Scroll the Chess (the "app") is a chess checkmate puzzle app for iPhone, published by Derin Özyenilmez, the seller shown on the App Store. "We," "us" and "our" mean the publisher of the app. The app is offered on the US App Store in English. This policy covers the app and our website at scrollthechess.com. Our website uses no cookies or analytics; the hosting provider may process technical data such as IP addresses to deliver and secure the site. Use of the app is governed by Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/).
2. Data stored on your device
The app stores your puzzle progress, scores, settings and onboarding answers on your iPhone. App usage data sent to our providers (section 3) may include some of this information, such as puzzles played and onboarding answers. If iCloud is on for the app, a small progress summary is also kept in your own iCloud account; Apple stores it under your Apple Account and we cannot read it. Deleting the app deletes the local data. "Reset progress" in the app's Settings clears your progress.
3. Data collected through service providers
The data that leaves your device is limited to the categories below. It is collected automatically by our providers' software while the app runs, from Apple when you subscribe, or from you when you write to us.
- Identifiers: an anonymous app user ID and app-specific device identifiers used by our providers (not your name or contact details).
- Device and app information: device model, operating system version, app version, language and region.
- Approximate location: the city, region or country derived from your IP address, not precise location.
- App usage events: for example which screens you view, which puzzles you play, which settings you change and your onboarding answers. These events are linked to the anonymous app user ID.
- Crash and performance diagnostics: technical reports that help us find errors, not linked to you.
- Purchase and subscription status: whether you have an active subscription or trial, tied to an anonymous app user ID. Apple handles all billing; payment card details are not shared with us.
- Advertising identifier (IDFA): only if you allow tracking in the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- Support correspondence: your email address and message, only if you contact us.
We do not collect your name, phone number, contacts, photos or health data, and the app has no chat, profiles or user-generated content.
4. How we use data
We use this data to:
- run the app and your subscription, including restoring purchases and preventing fraud;
- understand how the app is used and improve puzzles, onboarding and features;
- find and fix crashes and errors;
- measure which ads brought players to the app and manage our ad campaigns;
- respond to your messages, handle privacy requests and comply with law.
5. Who receives data
- Service providers acting on our behalf for subscription management, product analytics and crash reporting (such as RevenueCat, Mixpanel and Sentry). We use providers that commit, under their terms or data processing agreements, to protect personal data at least as well as this policy describes and to use it only to provide their service to us.
- Advertising partners that measure the results of our ad campaigns (such as Meta). They receive device identifiers, app installs, key in-app milestones and subscription events, and may process them under their own privacy policies.
- Apple, which processes purchases, subscriptions and iCloud data under Apple's privacy policy.
- Legal and business recipients: to comply with law or a lawful request, to enforce our rights, or a successor in a business transfer (section 14).
We do not sell personal data in exchange for money. If our providers change, we update this policy (section 13).
6. Tracking and your choices
On first launch, the app shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. Tracking is used only for ad measurement and campaign optimization with advertising partners. If you allow it, your advertising identifier is shared with those partners; if you decline, it is not collected. You can change your choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Sharing data with advertising partners may count as "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some US state privacy laws. To opt out, decline tracking in the prompt or turn it off in iOS Settings. When tracking is off, we do not share your advertising identifier or subscription events with advertising partners; the partner's SDK may still send limited app events (such as installs) that it processes under Apple's rules for apps without tracking permission. You can email support@scrollthechess.com with questions or requests. We will not treat you differently for exercising a privacy right.
The optional daily reminder is a local notification scheduled on your device, with no push server; manage it in the app's Settings or iOS notification settings.
7. Subscriptions and payments
The app uses an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple. Plans, prices, any free trial and renewal terms are shown on the App Store purchase screen before you confirm. Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel in your Apple ID subscription settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Billing, renewals, cancellations and refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's terms.
8. Retention and deletion
Data on your device stays there until you reset progress or delete the app. Data held by our providers is kept as long as needed for the purposes above and then deleted or anonymized under each provider's retention policy; subscription records may be kept longer where accounting or tax rules require it.
To ask us to delete your data, withdraw consent or learn what we hold, email support@scrollthechess.com. Because there are no accounts, we may ask for information that helps us find data linked to your device, such as the order ID from your Apple receipt, and use it only to handle your request. We respond within the time allowed by applicable law. Data held by Apple or advertising partners is subject to their own privacy controls.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, such as encryption in transit, limited access to provider dashboards and collecting only the data the app needs. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Where data is processed
We are based outside the United States. Your data is processed in the United States and in other countries where we or our service providers operate, which may have different privacy laws from your own.
11. Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If we learn that we have, we delete it. Parents or guardians who believe a child has provided data through the app can email support@scrollthechess.com.
12. Do Not Track
iOS apps do not receive browser "Do Not Track" signals, and we do not currently respond to them on our website. Your tracking choices for the app are described in section 6.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, our providers or the law change. We post the updated policy on this page with a new effective date; for material changes, we also notify you in the app or in App Store release notes. Continued use after a change means the updated policy applies.
14. Business transfers
If the app is transferred to a company or another publisher, for example in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, the data described here may be transferred to the successor, who will continue to be bound by this policy unless you are notified otherwise.
